What fan do I need for my bathroom?

To help select the right fan for your installation, you need to work out the average air changes/hr in your bathroom. Use our helpful calculator below.

*Average room height is 2.2m

What size bathroom is the fan for?

Small Bathroom

Small bathrooms range up to 7.7m3*.

To maximise the extraction in a room of this size, you would be looking at a fan with a recommended airflow of 31m3/hr*

The Sensio Rubi and Remy extractor fans have a maximum airflow of 54m3/hr so would be perfect for small en-suites and bathrooms.

The Layci and Drax ventilation fans have a maximum aiflow of 80m3/hr and 90m3/hr, meaning these would be the best match for a medium sized bathroom.

Large bathrooms are classed as 24.2m3 and above*.

For this size room you will need a fan with a recommended airflow of 95m3/hr*, and above, to get the best performance.

Where should I install my fan?

There are electrical safety zones in a bathroom to consider when installing your extractor fan. In Zone 2 the IP rating of a product needs to be at least IPX4(IP44).

To maximise the effectiveness of the extractor fan within your bathroom it needs to be as close as possible to the source of the moisture but as far away from the source of replacement air as possible.

The duct leading from the vent should be as straight as possible to avoid sharp bends that can impede airflow.

Everything you need to know

Bathrooms are notorious for being humid places causing damp and black mould, which can be difficult to deal with. The key to preventing this is through proper ventilation in your bathroom and throughout your home.

Why do I need an extractor fan?

Any UK bathroom needs to have a source of ventilation, either being from an openable window or extractor fan. This is to help reduce humidity levels which can lead to damp and black mould.

Axial Fans vs In-Line Fans

There are many different types of bathroom extractor fan out on the market. Sensio has chosen the best for your simplicity. But what are the differences and what type do you need for your property.

How loud will the fan be?

Typical measurements for sound come in decibels (dB). Our bathroom extractor fans range from 30dB-45dB. But what does that volume actually compare to? We have provided a great infographic to display this on the link below.
